Introduction: Vivian Kuang
Hey hey hey everyone!
My name is Vivian Kuang (she/her) and I am your head chair of BMUN 72's Third World Liberation Front committee. I am so hyped for conference and to meet all of you in March! In this post, I'll tell you a little bit about me; my awesome co-chairs will also be introducing themselves so check out their introductory posts as well!
I am a fourth year majoring in Political Economy and Data Science, with a particular focus on inequality and social movements. In particular, some of my academic, professional, and personal interests are ethnic studies and Asian American studies, prison and police abolition, anti-deportation advocacy, and community organizing! I am currently writing my senior thesis on the impact of deportation on family networks in Asian American communities, as well as how family is configured in anti-deportation advocacy.
This is my fourth and final year in BMUN but my very first time as a head chair! I did not do MUN in high school, but have extensive experience in other educational and community learning spaces. This strongly informs the way I approach MUN and our committee as a vehicle for developing critical thinking, research, and collaboration skills, as well as self-confidence in a world where youth are often disempowered from participating in shaping our future.
Outside of BMUN, I am involved with the Asian Pacific American Student Development office, where I oversee an Asian American community organizing fellowship. I also compete on the Cal Figure Skating team and am involved in various abolitionist research and volunteering spaces on campus. Off campus, I've also had several work experiences in abolitionist and criminal legal reform research and advocacy organizations in the Bay Area and across the country. If you have any interest or questions about anything I mentioned here, feel free to reach out to me personally at vkuang@bmun.org!
Otherwise, if you have any questions about committee, please email twlfbmun72@bmun.org. We look forward to seeing you soon!
In community,
Vivian Kuang
